Good decisions start with good information. Founders choosing where to locate, investors reading where an economy is heading, employers planning their next hire and civic leaders making the case for the region all need the same thing: data they can trust and find quickly. In Pinellas County, that data is now a click away.
The Pinellas County Economic Dashboard, from Pinellas County Economic Development (PCED), describes itself as “your source for economic, demographic, and workforce data in Pinellas County.” It brings thousands of data points together in one public place, with no report requests or paywalls in the way.
What’s inside
The dashboard is organized into five areas:
- Industry: employment trends and forecasts, employment by industry, gross regional product, firm counts, industry clusters and non-employer statistics.
- Wages & income: payroll, average salaries by industry, median household and per capita income, and poverty rates.
- Workforce: unemployment, employment by occupation with forecasts, educational attainment, college enrollment and graduate output, degree clusters and high-wage occupations.
- Demographics: population growth, migration, and age, race and gender profiles, including American Community Survey data tables.
- Social: housing permits, commute times, computer and broadband access, home ownership, health insurance and veterans data.
Why it matters
At HyLo Inno, our method is simple: map it, then act on it. You cannot invest in what you cannot see. The Pinellas County Economic Dashboard does exactly that for a whole county economy. It turns fragmented public statistics into something a founder can check before a pitch, a site selector can use before a visit, and a community organization can cite in a grant application.
That kind of direct access has real impact. It levels the field between organizations that can afford custom research and those that cannot, and it gives everyone the same starting point for conversations about where Pinellas, and Tampa Bay, should grow next.
Credit where it’s due
The dashboard is the work of Pinellas County Economic Development, led by Director Dr. Cynthia Johnson, who also serves as executive director of the county’s Economic Development Authority. Dr. Johnson is a certified Master Economic Development Practitioner and has been named to the Tampa Bay Business Journal Power 100 as one of the region’s most influential leaders.
When PCED launched its redesigned website and the interactive Pinellas Economic Data Dashboard, Dr. Johnson put the priority plainly: “Having a strong online presence with up-to-date data is so important in the Economic Development field.” PCED has committed to frequent updates to the dashboard.
Our thanks to Dr. Johnson and the PCED team for building a public resource that the whole ecosystem can use.
